Created in 2006, Michiana Word of Mouth started out as an online store with many different items in a variety of categories. The store allowed me to stay home with my children yet still bring in some extra income. I soon found that advertising my store was far more expensive than I had imagined. It made me sympathize with other families that own small businesses or organizations here in our community. While I didn’t have to worry about my store being my family’s only income, I knew that other families were counting on their business’s success. It made me want to help them as much as I could.

 

Today we still run our store which is now powered by Amazon.com, but we concentrate more on spreading the word about other small businesses and online resources. We rely on "word of mouth" to determine which businesses and organizations are displayed on our site. Michiana Word of Mouth encourages locals to submit testimonials, or reviews, about the experiences they have had with Michiana businesses. We then invite the referred organization to become part of our network and add all or part of the testimonial to the directory listing in our Local section.

 

Our e-directory is the place to go when you need something online. In the e-directory, we include larger businesses for sponsorship, but we always list the smaller businesses and local organizations first. The sponsorship from the larger companies allows us to offer the small businesses in the Michiana community such affordable advertising.

 

We are always looking for new businesses that Michiana residents would like to "spread the word" about to others. We want all of the small businesses here in Michiana to succeed. Please support them any way that you can. Try to skip the big corporations, and look for a local business that can offer you the same item or service. If we all work together and support each other you will find our community will be a better place to live and raise your family.
